SERVE ON A GCBA COMMITTEE
Being a member of a selection committee for either the Georgia Children’s Picturebook or Book Award demands that you truly enjoy reading children's literature, are willing to spend many hours in the coming year seeking out and reading books, and can think critically about those books. You must represent your school and community but also be sensitive to and tolerant of schools and communities that are not like yours -- a big challenge and responsibility!
We are unable to provide copies of recommended books to committee members. Committee members must be willing to use inter-library loan to obtain books on the reading lists. Committee members also must agree to attend a meeting on a Saturday in early February on the UGA campus in order to arrive at a list of nominees for the upcoming school year. Committee members must also attend the Annual Conference on Children’s Literature to assist in the presentation of the new nominees.
Being a member of a selection committee is a lot of hard work -- but it is also a lot of fun for those who truly love and understand children's literature. As a small token of the service and diligent commitment of committee members, their conference registration and meals are covered.
If you would like to volunteer to serve on either the Georgia Children’s Picturebook or Book Award committee, please provide the following information and click the "SUBMIT" button. It is very important that you provide an e-mail address as the selection committees use listserves for much of their work.
The deadline to apply to serve on a committee for 2013-2014 is April 30, 2013.
